Learning a language is usually difficult. Your brain always tries to filter things that it doesn’t understand, so you have to really pay attention to remember what you hear.

By the other hand, raditional methods of education no longer work because they are designed for students to be fundamentally passive.

Gamification can help you with your English. Earning rewards releases dopamine in your brain, which makes you feel happy and helps you learn. You feel more motivated to continue and to focus. It also makes you forget about the difficulty that we mentioned before.

Students don’t need more textbooks. When education is boring, there is no learning happens.

When people hear the word gamification the first thing that comes to mind are points that you earn, badges and levels.

But, what Is Gamification?

First off, let’s clarify the term “gamification.” It simply means to game mechanics and game elements in a non-game context. It helps to change people’s behavior and adds a playful spirit to some boring and routine things.

There are some of the most popular gamified apps from the e-learning sector:

Tinycards: it is a gamified educational app for learning with flashcards. It makes learning with boring old flash cards actually fun and enjoyable through the use of Gamification.

Memrise: is a gamified language learning app that utilizes gamified techniques to teach a new language. Players can learn English and many more languages.

The app is incredibly fun to use. You are an astronaut, going on your journey to learn a new language! As you learn and progress, you gain in levels and your pet alien evolves as well.

The fun of Memrise lies in two things: memes and gamification. The app follows a learning method that relies on creating funny or bizarre associations with the studied words. The memes are created by the community and everyone can add their own! Both earning, revising and creating memes is a source of points that help you advance in the Memrise world.

Mindsnacks: this app takes gamification to a whole different level. Each out of seven languages they teach comes with eight or nine tiny games are designed to help you learn vocabulary, grammar, practice your listening.

The design is very enjoyable, cheerful and charming  and it really helps to stay involved with the learning.

The basic download is free, but it comes only with a restricted number of games. If you pay a little bit you can access more lessons and widen your game options.

TRADITIONAL BRITISH DISHES YOU NEED TO TRY.

TRADITIONAL BRITISH DISHES YOU NEED TO TRY.

Shepherd’s Pie

Shepherd’s Pie is primarily made from minced lamb and potatoes. Many families will make this dish using beef, but then it should actually be referred to as Cottage Pie, as shepherds only herd sheep (duh).

Most Brits would agree that Shepherd’s Pie is best eaten at home with your family and, in fact, the dish is not often served in restaurants.

 Beef Wellington

Beef Wellington is a fillet of steak coated in patê and then rolled in pastry. Although the dish shares its name with the famous Duke of Wellington, it actually shares no link with the British nobility. In reality, it is thought that Beef Wellington was based around the French dish filet de bœuf en croûte (fillet of beef in pastry).

Beef Wellington is served in posh pubs and restaurants up and down the country.

READING COMPREHENSION.

READING COMPREHENSION.

Autor: Jimena González Sanz.

Simply put, reading comprehension is the act of understanding what you are reading. While the definition can be simply stated, the act is not simple to teach, learn or practice. Reading comprehension is an intentional, active process that occurs before, during and after a person reads a particular piece of writing.

What is the reading process? What do we do during the reading process? The following ideas can sum up the main things that happen on each stage.

The reading process has three stages: The initial stage, prereading or before reading, then the second one that happens while reading and the third and last one is the post reading or exploring and extending your reading.

A phrasal verb is a phrase that consists of a verb with a preposition or an adverb, or both. In many cases the meaning of the phrasal verb cannot be deduced from its separate elements. In addition, many phrasal verbs are polysemous i.e., they have more than one meaning. There are also difficulties with the grammar of phrasal verbs, particularly with the position of the particles, in that some phrasal verbs are ‘separable’ (the particle can be moved), while some are ‘inseparable.’ Quite apart from all this, there are literally thousands of them
